Fish Whisperer Wazza

Nearly all the fish Wazza has ever caught have been caught during the making of FW episodes.

As a fisherman, he is not much chop at all, but does provide hours of myrth and entertainment for Paul and Dave by way of his complete lack of skill and ability with a rod in his hand.

Of course, with a background in advertising, performing, comedy writing, drumming and public speaking, it's probably to be expected.

Wazza is the narrator of the Fish Whisperers which he loves because it gives him the chance to get revenge on Paul and Dave for anything they do to him during filming. This includes such things as throwing tomatoes at him while he's asleep, waking him up with a camera in his face after only 90 minutes sleep, giving him dud bait and bogus information and deliberately putting him in situations where vomiting is virtually guaranteed.

All that aside though, he relishes the opportunity to spend time with his mates, making this show and thinks its hilarious that anyone would take the time to watch it, but is delighted and appreciates it when they do.

Fish Whisperer Dave

Dave was born 2nd march 1962, in Adelaide, Australia.

He’s been fishing nearly every day since he was born, except for a period between the ages of 17 and 22 where he found girls and fast motorcycles to be of a primary interest.

That all changed in 1985 when he met and married his lovely bride Toni (fishing widow), on the 24th December 1985. They have 3 great kids, Kylie, Jhi & Zoë, and a new grandson Myles. There is a possibility they would all require some form of medal or government recognition for putting up with Dave’s fishing over the years.

Professionally, Dave was very successful as a builder from the age of 14 to retirement at 42. He now lives in Yamba, New South Wales, about as close to paradise as you can get and owns Yamba Bait and Tackle with his brother in law Derek (also known as Poofo the magical clown, but that’s another story altogether).

As Dave says:

“Basically I am just the average bloke who loves fishing, talking about fishing, cleaning fish, teaching fishing, telling lies about fishing, etc. etc. you get the idea. I am fortunate enough to have 2 good mates in Wazza & Paul to spend the time with, making the Fish Whisperers and having a ball, fishing. I hope you enjoy watching the Fish Whisperers as much as we do making it.”

Fish Whisperer Paul

Paul is a very large unit, 115 kg, 6 ft 4, hands the size of small countries.

Like Dave, Paul has been fishing since before he could walk. In Australia he is a very well known television personality, appearing in countless fishing and outdoor programs, doing the nightly fishing reports for channel 9 Queensland, daily radio reports, writing for daily newspapers and fishing magazines and guest speaking at expos, conventions and to anyone else who would care to listen or is too scared of his hulking frame to walk away.

Mention anything to do with fishing and his eyes light up. It’s even hard to get him out of the tuna aisle at the supermarket. Not that he goes to the supermarket all that much, he’d rather catch something in the wild and eat it.

Paul is a lively, jovial, gentle giant whose passion for fishing and adventuring jump out of him like a Dolphin on heat.

He seems to have a natural ability to surprise the rest of the team on a daily basis with a left field comment or a refreshingly brutal display of “putting a prawn to sleep”.

He is the most experienced media personality, also the only media personality, of all the Fish Whisperers, yet he has very little ego, with the possible exception of demanding that his fish be cleaned using Evian water.

Fish Whisperer Kelly – the camera chick.

Kelly has the hardest job in the Fish Whisperers.

She has to capture on film all the ramblings, dropped fish, hooked fish, snags, arguments, crab leg breakings, jetty launches, trolls, live bait pumps, filletings, cooking, baiting, knot tying and anything else we’d care to throw at her in our mostly unprofessional and off the cuff manor (with the exception of Paul aka “the talent).

More than once Kelly has successfully managed to hold a camera perfectly still and focused on the subject at hand, whilst being violently ill over the side of whatever boat we are in.

Kelly is a happy morning person, a very valuable asset in the FW camp.

Kelly also runs a very successful production company specializing in corporate dvds, commercials and filming events.

She is a very tolerant person who is not in the least fazed by the other Whisperers’ trumpet bums. She is our rock, our stability and possibly the only one of us with any common sense.
